1914 $10 Gold Coin Hand-Selected Choice Uncirculated
The coins saw limited circulation, and with the start of the First World War in 1914, the coin program was cancelled. For close to 100 years, many of these first Canadian $5 and $10 gold coins sat in their original canvas bags, forming a part of Canada's national gold reserves. However, some of these coins were transferred to the Royal Canadian Mint a few years ago and made available to collectors. This item is one of the historic gold coins from the Department of Finance vaults, presented with a certificate of authenticity and custom packaging from the Royal Canadian Mint.
The mint has described these coins as "hand selected" uncirculated, and the coins would typically be described as "choice uncirculated" by collectors and dealers. This original 1914 $10 gold coin is one of the premium examples from this unusual and important historic Canadian coin hoard.
