Product Overview
This beautiful five-ounce silver coin is part of the Mother-of-Pearl series and is dedicated to the Norse explorer Leif Eriksson, the first European to explore North America. The coin's design is made of inlayed mother-of-pearl, has an incredible relief and comes presented in a custom case, along with a certificate of authenticity. The coin has an extremely low mintage of just 750 pieces, and a face value of $25 in Solomon Islands.
The reverse of the coin features a beautiful design of Leif Erikson's ship implemented on an ocean-blue mother-of-pearl Inlay. All around the reverse are the inscriptions "Discovery of the New World" and "2020." The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions "Solomon Islands," "25 dollars," "5 oz Ag 999," and "Elizabeth II."
Leif Erikson was the son of Erik the Red, founder of the first European settlement on what is now called Greenland. Leif sailed from Greenland to Norway shortly before the year 1000 to serve among the retainers at the court of Olaf I Tryggvason, who converted him to Christianity and commissioned him to urge that religion upon the Greenland settlers. He is generally believed to be the first European to reach the North American continent, nearly four centuries before Christopher Columbus arrived in 1492.
