2023 Five Ounce $50 Fine Silver Coin Maple Leaves in Motion

With its beautiful art and innovation, Maple Leaves in Motion is an annual favourite from the Royal Canadian Mint, and it has a history of selling out on launch day. New for 2023, this $50 five-ounce fine-silver coin combines ultra-high-relief maple leaves set against a laser-engraved special-effect background that pulsates as the coin is turned in the light.  

The maple leaf continues to be a powerful representation of Canada's proudest achievements and key milestones. Rendered in ultra high relief, the three raised sugar maple leaves pop against the pulsating background. This optical effect is produced by an array of sub-millimetre-scale mirrors, which have been micro-engineered and precisely engraved to reflect light in a way that creates the illusion of motion.

The obverse features a double-dated (1952–2022) posthumous effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, set against a simplified continuation of the background special-effect pattern behind the maple leaves.
