These bright and brilliant halo design earrings are each centered by a 1.00 carat oval shaped spessartite garnet, held within four yellow gold prongs. The garnets display a slightly reddish-orange intensity, appearing very much like a fire opal. Each garnet is surrounded by fourteen round brilliant cut diamonds with treated yellow colour, providing a most interesting and complimentary combination. The twenty-eight diamonds combine for a half carat and are all set into 14K white gold. A long post with butterfly back is attached.
Spessartite is a rare form of orange garnet often referred to as Mandarin garnet for its vivid colour. Pure orange spessartite is not common, but reddish, brownish or yellowish tints are frequent. Its most desirable colour is a fiery-red with slight orange tints. Spessartite has an exceptionally high refractive index, giving cut gemstones a special brilliance. These gems actually occur in a range of colours from yellowish-orange, to reddish-orange, and orange-red. The combination of vivid colour and garnet's very high refractive index make spessartite one of the most brilliant stones in the world of coloured gems.
