Estate Originals 14K White Gold 4.14 Carat Star Ruby and Diamond Cluster Ring

This sensational ring is crafted in 14K white gold and is centered with a 4.14 carat oval shaped cabochon cut star ruby. Star rubies are amongst the rarest and most coveted gems in the world. Even more so in comparison to star sapphires, since the chromium that colours them pink and red limits the sizes they can grow to. Each star ruby is so unique in appearance, that matching pairs (much less a set) are nearly impossible. A halo of twenty-six round brilliant cut diamonds surround the ruby and five diamonds, on each side, decorate the shank. The thirty-six diamonds combine for 0.35 carats. A pierced dome under-gallery creates a tiara effect.

Special features that appear in gems like a star are known as phenomena. A ruby is considered a Star Ruby when a three-point or six-point asterism appears within the stone. This star is created when tiny fibres of rutile, also known as “silk,” have light reflected off of them in such a way that a star shape is formed. Star rubies are cut into cabochons in order to display the rare star design as effectively as possible.
