Estate Originals 14K Yellow Gold Ammolite Triplet and Diamond Ring

This simplistic ring showcases a captivating oval shaped, cabochon cut ammolite triplet set in radiant 14K yellow gold. The ammolite, known for its vibrant play-of-colour, is protected by a clear cap that enhances its natural beauty and durability. Flanking the ammolite and asymmetrically set on each side is a 0.04 carat round brilliant cut diamond that adds a touch of brilliant elegance to the design. The warm yellow gold Euro shank band compliments the smoldering hues of the ammolite and the shimmer of the diamonds in a ribbed bypass design. Ammolite triplets are usually constructed on a dark gray wafer of natural shale below a thin layer of ammolite. On top, there's usually a calibrated cap of optical quartz or synthetic spinel.

Ammolite is one of the world's rarest gemstones, being only commercially mined in Southern Alberta, Canada. Ammolite is unique to a geological deposit known as the Bearpaw Formation of the Western Interior Seaway. Ammolite is a gem that comes from the fossilized shell of an extinct, squid-like creature called an ammonite, and as gems fall under the trade name ammolite. Ammolite's iridescent play of colour is what makes it so distinctive and attractive. Its iridescence occurs when the fossilized ammonite shell becomes mineralized. Unlike most gems, whose colors come from light absorption, ammolite's iridescent colour is caused by interference with the light that gets trapped within stacked layers of thin platelets that make up the fossilized shell. Since the layer of ammolite is typically thin, most ammolite is made into doublets or triplets for use in jewellery.
