Estate Originals 14K Yellow Gold Indigenous Art Whale Motif Pendant

This striking 14K yellow gold pendant is a stunning piece of indigenous art, beautifully crafted to depict a killer whale in a dynamic and powerful design. The killer whale, known for its strength and significance deeply rooted in many indigenous cultures, is intricately rendered with flowing lines, curves and bold shapes, creating a sense of movement and energy while capturing the grace and power of this majestic creature. The back of the piece is signed by the artist Richard Krentz with the year 1957.

Richard Krentz, whose name is kwátám-us in the Coast Salish language of the Sechelt nation, was a man of two worlds: he was one of Canada's most renowned Indigenous artists, and also a natural entrepreneur. He specialized in the creation of beautiful silver and gold jewellery featuring Coast Salish designs. He also won an international reputation as a leading carver of totem poles and other major pieces, as well as masks and his signature line of bentwood boxes. Richard was the instigator and organizer of a unique collaborative project that saw the world's tallest totem pole erected at the Victoria Commonwealth Games. Richard passed away suddenly in 2014.

He is said to protect those who travel away from home, and to lead them back when the time comes. Orcas will often stay their whole life with the same pod and raise each calf with care. Orcas travel in large family groups, working together to protect all members of their pod. Also known as the “Lord of the Ocean” the Killer whale is said to be the guardian of the ocean, with seals as his slaves and dolphins as his warriors. It is believed that Killer Whales are closely related to humans, and it is said that when a human drowns the human is taken down by Killer Whales into their deep villages and transformed into a Killer Whale.
