Product Overview

Curving and coiling in characteristic serpentine fashion, this exotic snake ring spans from knuckle to knuckle. From the top of its head to the tip of its tail, this remarkable reptile is fancified with an intricate design, including a scale-like texture and realistic facial details.

The snake as a motif in jewellery dates to ancient times. It is believed that the first examples were created by the Egyptians and Mesopotamians. The snake was often seen as a symbol of wisdom, healing and transformation. In addition, it was thought to be a powerful protector against evil forces. Prince Albert presented Queen Victoria with an 18K serpent engagement ring in 1840. The head was adorned with rubies for the eyes, diamonds for the mouth and an emerald set in the head, representing her birthstone. The serpent was a symbol for everlasting love and was a particularly popular expression of adoration during these times.
