Estate Originals 14K Yellow Gold Swiss Army Knife

This is a rare and special treat for knife collectors and enthusiasts alike. This vintage Latama lobster pen knife was made in Italy, likely circa 1949 - early 1950's. It features three stainless steel blades (a pen blade, scissors, and a manicure blade) and yellow gold body and bale. Lobster pocket watches have blades coming out of both sides of the knife, with a central spring or springs and can have as little as two blades. The pen blade is tang stamped Latama Italy Stainless. The body of the knife is rectangular, measuring 6 cm in length with rounded corners and is patterned with a cross hatch design. A rectangular high polished section in the middle is engraved with the monogram ""M A P"". This knife is very well made and will provide many more years of service with proper care, and would look right at home on the end of a gold pocket watch chain.

Latama's Italian knife making history has been argued to extend as far back as before World War II. The Latin America Import Export Company abbreviated LATAMA was founded by Jacob (Jack) Polinkovsky in the postwar years. The original company had nothing to do with knives but rather the silk export industry. Jack went to Milan to auction silk but silk was sold out and he turned his attention to the British folding knives that were used during the war in the British airborne troops. After a very positive experience, he explored the possibilities of industrialization of knives production. This sphere of activity was ripe for such a businessman, and Jack did not have any problems with the foundation of what would become one of the greatest associations of automatic knives manufacturers.
