Estate Originals 18K Rose Gold 3.70 Carat Black, Brown and White Diamond Bombe Style Ring
This magical ring is fashioned in a bombe design with thirteen rows of multi-colour, prong-set diamonds, positioned to provide a soft ombre transition that graduates from darker to lighter as the dome deepens. One hundred and twenty of the diamonds are fancy black, thirty are white and eighty-two are fancy champagne brown. The inside of the dome is backed with a pierced paisley design allowing the light to interact with the diamonds, adding sparkle and dazzle. The diamonds combine for 3.70 carats.
Bombe rings have a unique aesthetic which has evolved gracefully since they were first created during the Edwardian era. Over the decades, especially later in the 20th century, women have been drawn to this design when looking for statement dress rings. Named after the late 19th-century French dessert bombe glacée, bombe rings are usually smooth and rounded. The dictionary definition of the bombe shape is 'curving or swelling outward' and this is exactly the aesthetic of antique and vintage bombe rings. When the Art Deco era arrived, the stylistic features of the bombe ring changed. Whimsical lacy designs were replaced with bold geometric patterns and monochrome colours. Although bombe rings were growing in popularity throughout these periods, they didn't reach their prime until the 1950s and 60s. At this time, bombe rings became all the rage and many vintage examples that we see now originated during this surge in their popularity. Prominent jewellery styles drew influence from Hollywood glamour (an aesthetic that favoured yellow gold, often heavily ornamented with diamonds and other gemstones). Naturally, diamonds were a popular choice for decorating bombe rings, given their unmistakable glistening beauty. Popular setting styles at the time such as the pavé setting were perfect for diamond bombe rings, allowing for smaller diamonds to be used together to cover the entire curved surface of the ring, and to create an impressive overall piece of jewellery.
