Product Overview

This remarkable 18K yellow gold Art Deco brooch exemplifies the bold, geometric elegance of the era. The round disc design is meticulously crafted, featuring a striking black enamel finish that enhances its dramatic appeal. At the centre, a luminous rose-cut diamond catches the eye, surrounded by a halo of eight additional rose-cut diamonds, raised above a background of black enamel, which in turn is encircled by a further 13 rose-cut diamonds, each majestically balanced within a scalloped prong display. A wavy base of black enamel decorates the bottom, and a coiled gold trim outlines the circle. This intricate arrangement creates a stunning interplay of light and shadow, perfectly complementing the brooch's symmetrical, refined style. A true embodiment of vintage glamour, this piece is an exquisite example of Art Deco design, combining opulence with precision. It secures with a trombone clasp, which requires a push-and-pull mechanism to open and close. These clasps were popular among European jewellery from the 1890s to the mid-20th century.

Rose-cut diamonds originated around the 16th century and were made popular in the Georgian Era (1700s). They were inspired by the spiral of petals in a rose bud. Instead of a tight sparkle like a modern round, brilliant-cut diamond, rose cut diamonds are more known for a sensual shimmer and lustre. They have emerged as an ethereal, antique-inspired alternative to more traditional diamond cuts like brilliant-cuts and appear much larger per carat than their brilliant counterparts. They were one of the first cuts of diamonds, cut by hand by skilled diamond cutters to optimize sparkle in candlelight as they were made before electricity was invented. They have a domed top and a flat base and much like the sprawling petals of a fully bloomed rose, the peaked top of a rose diamond is covered in distinctive triangle facets.
