Estate Originals 18K Yellow and White Gold 1.38-Carat Lab-Grown Emerald and Old European-Cut Diamond Art Deco–Era Pendant

This vintage pendant dates to the Art Deco period (circa 1930) and is crafted in 18K yellow and white gold with a 1.38-carat cushion-cut lab-grown emerald is bezel-set in yellow gold and trimmed with milgrain. Ten Old European-cut diamonds, each prong-set in a white gold bezel, surround the emerald in a halo formation. This part of the pendant is attached, with a pendulum swing, to a two-part decorative bar that hangs from the bale. Three small Old European-cut diamonds add sparkle to the drop. The 13 diamonds combine for 0.40 carats. A new 16-inch 18K yellow gold cable link chain with two-inch extender is included.

Synthetic emeralds share virtually all of the chemical, optical and physical characteristics of their natural counterparts. Two types of synthetics are produced: the flux grown version became available in the 1930s, and the hydrothermal synthetic emerald came on the scene in 1960. They were very frequently used in fine jewellery, without the stigma that a synthetic stone might have today. The stone here is every bit as vivid and intense green as the most expensive natural emerald.
