Estate Originals Custom Made 14K Rose Gold Cabochon Cut 6-Ray Star Ruby and Diamond Ring

This custom-made ring is crafted in 14K rose gold and features a 5.75 carat round shaped cabochon cut 6-ray star ruby, bezel-set, at its centre. A five petal floral design frames the star ruby and each petal is set with four black diamonds. Combined, there are twenty black diamonds with a combined weight of 0.30 carats. The wide high polished band and size make this ring suitable for either a man or woman.

Star rubies are amongst the rarest and most coveted gems in the world, prized by collectors and connoisseurs. Each star ruby is so unique in appearance, that matching pairs (much less a set) is nearly impossible. Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of these gemstones is their ability to exhibit asterism – a rare phenomenon that causes them to appear to have a six-pointed star in the centre when they are held up to a light. Out of every 100 rough corundum (ruby and sapphire) mined, only three will have stars apparent after being cut into cabochons. Most original sources of star rubies such as Mogok (Burma) have run out of supplies. Worldwide production today is yielding a very small quantity of fine stars (especially in sizes above 5 carats).
