This spectacular vintage brooch was custom crafted in 14KT yellow gold. Predominantly bezel-set, in the center, is a 6.50 carat oval shaped synthetic ruby. A fancy, decorative, crest or wreath-like design provides the border around the ruby. Eight rose cut diamonds, all different in shape and size, enhance the perimeter with a romantic old world decadence. The eight diamonds combine for .65 carats. The reverse side has a solid panel that opens only to expose the back of the ruby and a pin is soldered to the back.
Synthetic gemstones are defined as man made which possess the same properties as natural gemstones. They are not the same as imitation gems. Synthetic gemstones are identical to the natural stone with the same appearance, chemical composition and physical characteristics but have been created in a lab. The first synthetic ruby was produced in 1877.
