Estate Originals Custom and Hand Made Platinum and 14K Yellow Gold Vintage Brooch with an Old European Cut Diamond

This delicate vintage brooch is custom and hand made in platinum and 14K yellow gold. It contains at its centre a bezel-set .22 carat Old European cut diamond. The pin measures 5.5cm across and exhibits a horizontal pierced display with what looks like textured wings, evenly spaced across. The diamond is surrounded by a pierced curve with an intricate wire pattern that joins the bars along the outside. The pin across the back is crafted in 14K yellow gold.

Old European cut diamonds are known for their large facets, which are larger than round brilliant cuts. They are easily recognizable by the small circle at the centre of the diamond's table. This circle comes from the old European cut's large culet. The culet is the facet at the bottom of the diamond. These diamonds are cut in a style developed in Europe and popular from 1890 to 1930. These antique diamonds have a chunkier pattern of light, while the modern diamonds have a more "splintery" pattern with a greater brilliance or return of white light. Machine cutting wasn't available when old European-cut diamonds were popular; each one was cut by hand meaning that each one is unique.
