Product Overview

This Girard Perregaux Ferrari watch is crafted in stainless steel with a stainless-steel bracelet and a 38-mm case. The dial is red and proudly displays the Ferrari stallion at the 12 o'clock position. The watch has silver hour, minute and second hands with matching stick hour markers. Three chronograph subdials displaying 60 seconds 30 minutes and 12 hours are located in the three, six and nine o'clock positions, and there is a date display between the four and five o'clock markers. The watch runs on an automatic movement and does not require winding. Included is a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and pull/push crown. The bracelet secures with a deployment clasp.

The history of Girard Perregaux began in 1791 in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel, making it one of the oldest Swiss watchmaking companies. Girard-Perregaux was the result of the marriage between Constant Girard and Marie Perregaux in 1854, as they joined together two watchmaking families in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. They established the brand Girard-Perregaux together in 1856. Former race-car driver Luigi Macaluso bought Girard-Perregaux in 1992. His racing roots met his passion for his business venture in 1993 when he partnered with Ferrari and hence produced a collection of sport chronographs between 1994 and 2004, with the Ferrari logo, in limited editions. Di Montezemolo, president of Ferrari from 1991 through 2014, was looking for watches worthy of the Ferrari legend; the finest in styling and technology, with beauty and performance being tantamount. Ferrari had other experiences with watches, but Mr. Montezemolo liked to have more of an integrated connection. They started with the first Girard-Perregaux watch for Ferrari, which is still considered a masterpiece today. Macaluso and di Montezemolo decided not to bring out a Ferrari watch but instead crafted a very important distinction: "Girard-Perregaux for Ferrari." This way, potential clients would be assured of purchasing a timepiece from a highly respected watch manufacturer with all the quality control and service capabilities that implies. Of all the varying Ferrari watches brought out over the last 40-odd years, those that Girard-Perregaux crafted in the 11 years of this collaboration are still the ones that hold the most sway among collectors. They stopped producing the Ferrari watch in 2004. From 1995, the base collection initially mainly comprised the Reference 8020 automatic chronograph. This collection was available in a wide array of case metals and dial colours, many of which used the typical Ferrari red and yellow tones in some capacity.
