Estate Originals Italian-Made 18K Yellow and White Gold Sapphire and Diamond Cluster Ring

This bold finger bauble is Italian designed with a dashing display of 47 round blueberry-coloured sapphires and 33 round, brilliant-cut diamonds, each prong-set in 18K white gold and arranged in a bombé dome. The undergallery, crafted in 18K yellow gold, features a circular spoke display specifically intended to allow light to enter and reflect through the gemstones. The split band transitions to a ribbed shank and a permanent ring guard is soldered to the inside. (The ring guard can be removed for sizing.) The sapphires combine for 2.13 carats and the diamonds total 0.99 carats.

The dictionary definition of the bombé shape is "curving or swelling outward," and is named after the late 19th-century French dessert, bombé glacée. This is exactly the aesthetic of antique and vintage bombé rings, which have an appealing rounded curving shape that allows for a multitude of unique variations and have been seen from the Edwardian period onwards, with each period providing an interesting and different adaption on it. However, it is in the Hollywood period of the 1950s as well as the '60s and '70s that this shaping became all the rage. Hollywood glamour featured a larger overall size on the finger, creating an impressive presentation while providing a wealth of enjoyment from every angle. Bombé rings were a popular form for famous top jewellery houses such as Tiffany, VCA and Oscar Heyman Brothers, and were frequently set with a multitude of smaller gemstones covering the entire surface of the ring.
