Enhance any room with this beautiful part of Canadian art history. Franklin Carmichael was born in Orillia, Ontario, in 1890. He went to Toronto in 1911 and studied at the Ontario College of Art (he also taught there from 1932 to 1945), and became a member of the Group of Seven in 1920 and the Canadian Group of Painters in 1933. His early works used a rich paint impasto, glowing with colour. Carmichael loved the patterns he discovered within nature, which was reflected in his artwork. Today his works still stand out as icons of Canadian art, placing him among Canada’s finest painters, both in oils and watercolours. Carmichael died in Toronto in 1945.
