Product Overview

This gold dinar was struck and used throughout the Ghaznavid Empire from 989 to 1099 CE. It is part of a small hoard recently discovered, with most of the coins being from the reign of Ibrahim (Zahir Al Daulah). The coin bears the inscription of the ruler, mint and date of issue. On its obverse is the inscription "Ghazna Kalima," and on the reverse is an inscription of the name and title of the ruler. The coin would have circulated widely in trade and commerce throughout the region that now comprises Iran, Afghanistan and Northeast India for over 100 years from 989 to 1099 CE.

This coin has an average weight about 3.5 grams of 17-karat gold (about .700 fine), with a diameter of about 25 mm. While it was widely used in commerce more than 925 years ago, it remains in a good state of preservation. The coin comes presented in a display holder together with a colour information page and certificate of authenticity.
