A little history about fudge Like many other traditional recipes, fudge is believed to have resulted from a caramel batch failure, but the origin is unclear. The first records on the existence of the fudge come from the 19th century. A letter found in the archives of Vassar College, USA, mentions that fudge was sold in a local Baltimore grocery store in 1886. However, the recipe made at the time went through several adaptations, and today many versions can be found.
