ABOUT Joey Salmingo

Joey Salmingo is a Television Presenter, Interviewer and Live Eye Host. Despite the volume he can achieve with his hair, Joey has worn more hats than most people in his profession. There are very few on-camera personalities that have behind-the-camera and production expertise as well! Couple that with a unique and lengthy career in restaurants, food service and hospitality, and you have a literal ‘recipe for success’.

Before his career in front of (and behind) the camera, Joey was in front of (and behind) the stove as a chef and restauranteur in Toronto. This unique path of dual contrasting experiences would help transform him into a unique and diverse television host.

He has attended some of the most iconic events in the business, including the Academy Awards, as well as special events and premieres at the El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. Prior to walking the Red Carpet alongside the likes of Ryan Seacrest, Kris Jenner and Giuliana Rancic, Joey was a Food & Lifestyle host on a US series titled, Off The Menu which followed him to restaurants across North America in search of dishes only found on ‘secret’ menus. Ahead of that, Joey was the host of The Chef Cartel, a chef competition series with a live studio audience where Canada’s most renown chefs battle in a black-box style competition.

Joey’s live on-air career started in 2013 as a guest host on TSC.. He was the face of Canon Canada and their product expert for several years before being asked to become one of TSC’s electronics experts. In Q4 of 2016 Joey became one of the regular hosts on TSC.

Following the death of his sister Joanna on August 8th, 2018, Joey founded The F.A.T.E. Initiative. The Food Allergy Training & Education Initiative. Joanna died eating her favourite dessert in their family home. She ate something that, unknown to everyone, contained an allergen and she reacted to it fiercely and fast, triggering anaphylaxis, the most severe allergic reaction. That September, FATE was founded; the not-for-profit organization aimed at educating and training individuals on the severity of food allergies. FATE provides education and training on food allergies, it’s causes, awareness and reaction tactics. Together with his mother, a nurse of over forty years, and the support of his father, they train schools, businesses, restaurants, flight attendants, first responders and all that inquire, sharing Joanna’s story and providing awareness to those that have no idea how serious food allergies can be.

Now, a father of two, Joey is happy to return “home” again at TSC, with a new wealth of life experiences to share with his friends and colleagues, old and new, and our loyal TSC viewers.
