Product Overview
Inspired by the illustrious treasures of Colombia, this simple statement necklace from the Grace Kelly - Princess of Monaco Collection features emerald-cut green crystals set in a delicate design.
Movie director Alfred Hitchcock loved working with Grace Kelly. He made her most famous movies, and actually fell in love with her, even though he was old enough to be her father. He also knew Grace had hated her lines and the lack of a chance to show her great acting ability, and the two had discussed it at great length.
Green Fire was a movie made by MGM (Hitchcock worked for Paramount) about emerald hunters in Colombia, which has the most beautiful and expensive emeralds in the world. Most emeralds are dark green, but Colombian emeralds are bright and full of "fire." When it came time for a wedding present for Grace, Hitchcock chose a necklace and bracelet set made with diamonds and Colombian emeralds. The emeralds used in the set were flawless along with the diamonds. The set was well appreciated for its beauty by Grace, but even more appreciated for Hitchcock's thoughtfulness, as they reminded her of her past life; her husband Prince Rainier had requested that she give up acting.
Hitchcock's present would help him many years later when he tried to get the now Princess Grace to star in one more film, Marnie. It would be a film starring Sean Connery as the leading man. Rainier agreed to allow Grace one more shot at acting, but when the citizens of Monaco found out, they besieged the palace with threats and demonstrations. Rainier had to ask Grace to cancel her plans, and she did.
