Product Overview
Fascinating in its colour distribution, this large oval shaped ametrine displays a 50% purple and 50% yellow colour hue. Ametrine is a quartz mineral that grows both citrine and amethyst in one stone. The colour of the zones visible within ametrine are due to differing oxidation states of iron within the crystal. The citrine segments have oxidized iron while the amethyst segments are unoxidized. The different oxidation states occur due to there being a temperature gradient across the crystal during its formation. This particular stone is cut in an oval and is faceted most predominantly around the edges creating a checkerboard effect. The stone is secured with four prongs and is set vertically. The 14kt yellow gold band sweeps around the top and bottom in a bypass styling and envelops a sloped cluster of six diamonds on each end. The twelve diamonds combine for a half carat total diamond weight and present VS-2 - SI-1 clarity and G-H colour. The inside of the shank is stamped "1986".
