Product Overview
This 18kt yellow gold vintage THEODORE B. STARR open face pocket watch has a 46mm case diameter, a round shaped white dial with black Arabic numerals and red Arabic sub-numerals and rose tinted fancy scroll hands. There is a 60 second sub-dial at 6 o'clock. It runs on a 17 Jewel Swiss made manual wind movement #17454. The case number is #17484. The back of the case is engraved with the initials 'WBR' in fancy script and the inside of the case is engraved "W. Boardman Reed from Associates of New York City Ry, Co. March 31, 1906" which is intriguing in itself!

In 1877, following his 13-year partnership with the German-born jeweler and silversmith Herman Marcus, Theodore B. Starr (1837–1907) established his own luxury goods store at 206 Fifth Avenue, near Madison Square, in a highly fashionable neighborhood. An article published in the New York Times on December 20, 1890, declared that "Starr’s establishment… has no duplicate in this country, and probably not in the world." Theodore B. Starr was among the most prominent and influential jewelry and silversmithing firms in New York City during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Originally in partnership with jeweler and silversmith Herman Marcus under the name of Starr & Marcus, Theodore B. Starr established his own eponymous firm in 1877. Starr’s work was regularly and enthusiastically heralded in the press.
