This high-quality eight-piece "type collection" presents all 10 different denominations and major types of Canadian coinage issued during the reign of King George V, dating from 1911 to 1936. The highlights of the collection are superb uncirculated examples of Canada's $5 and $10 gold coins issued from 1912 to 1914. Other denominations include a silver dollar, silver 50 cents, silver 25 cents, silver 10 cents, silver five cents, five-cent nickel, large cent and small cent. The coins are all packaged in professional coin holders and displayed in two mahogany finish presentation cases.
$5 and $10 Gold Coins (one of each denomination)
The $5 and $10 gold coin series issued from 1912 to 1914 is one of the shortest-lived and most sought-after series of Canadian coins. The design of this coin features the old Dominion of Canada coat-of-arms superimposed upon two boughs of maple. Production of these coins was halted in 1914 when Canada adopted new wartime legislation to restrict the flow of gold. At the same time, notes issued by the Dominion government ceased to be redeemable in gold, and this redeemability was not restored until 1926. All of these coins were struck in 22-karat gold. The $5 gold coin contains about a quarter-ounce of fine gold, while the $10 coin contains about a half-ounce.

In the canoe are bundles of goods; the bundles at the right are marked with "HB," representing the Hudson's Bay company. The vertical lines represent the aurora borealis.
