2017 $20 Fine Silver Coin Murano Glass Beetle

This one-ounce fine silver coin is both a limited-edition collectible and a beautiful work of art. It celebrates one of its tiniest creations with a Murano glass beetle poised on a coloured dogbane plant. Murano glass is famous for its bright, fluid colours, and the beetle sparkles and shines with all the eye-catching iridescence that has made insects a popular form of ornamentation since ancient times.

This coin's reverse design is punctuated by a shimmering Venetian glass beetle that was handcrafted by master glassmaker Giuliano Donaggio in Murano, Italy. The glass beetle is poised on a coloured design by Canadian artist Maurice Gervais that features the leaves and pink, bell-shaped flowers of the dogbane plant, one of the beetle's preferred food sources.
