1991 Canadian $200 Hockey: A National Passion Gold Coin
Throughout its history, the Royal Canadian Mint has issued coins featuring an impressive number of various themes, and within the last few decades, hockey has been included in those themes. The first known ice hockey coin was issued for the 1988 Winter Olympics, but in the 1990s, the theme would be used more frequently.
In 1991, the coin featured here, "A National Passion," was issued as a tribute to the spirit and vitality of Canadian youth and the national game of hockey. The obverse side features an image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Dora de Pédery-Hunt.
