In 2019, the Royal Canadian Mint showcased a new technology featuring extraordinarily high relief (EHR) technology to transform the coin into a three-dimensional sculpture which rises about six millimetres from the field of the coin. This minting technique was used to showcase three different animal heads: the 2019 grizzly bear, the 2020 wolf and the 2020 lynx. The EHR designs were made using over 400 reflective polygons, creating three-dimensional images that sparkle like diamonds! With beautiful visual effects and a mintage of just 2,500, each coin in this series sold out immediately and each has significantly appreciated in the secondary market.
