Product Overview
This vintage cameo was custom made in yellow gold. It features an oval shaped shell cameo with a peach-coloured background and cream colour top depicting a lady's profile (shoulders up), with flowers in her hair and on her shoulder and pearls around her neck. The intricate frame first wraps around the cameo and increases and decreases in width to accommodate the shape of the cameo. A fancy leaf design decorates the frame at the top, bottom and both sides and a twisted rope surrounds the entire perimeter. Between the bezel and frame is a continuous strand of seed pearls that are anchored into place by the leaf motifs and small wire bands.

Shell cameos, relatively new in the history of cameos, became popular six- to seven-hundred years ago during the Renaissance but the height of their popularity occurred during the Victorian era. Victorians, especially British Victorians, were enamored of Italy and all things Italian including cameos. Cameos enjoyed the greatest popularity during the Roman era, the Renaissance and the 19th century.
