About King Charles III
His Majesty King Charles III was born at Buckingham Palace on November 14, 1948. As the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Charles became heir to the throne at the age of three upon his mother's accession to the throne in February 1952.
In 1969, he was invested as The Prince of Wales by The Queen, a title he held until he became king. He attended school in the United Kingdom and also spent two terms abroad as an exchange student in Melbourne, Australia. He would go on to study archeology, anthropology and history at Cambridge University. Following the tradition of his father and grandfather, Prince Charles entered into a military career by joining the Royal Navy.
Charles has been a patron, president or member of more than 400 charities and organizations. He is known as an environmentalist and advocate for preservation of historic architecture, and he has published his views by authoring or co-authoring over 20 books.
Charles succeeded his mother on her death on September 8, 2022. At the age of 73, he was the oldest person to accede to the British throne, after having been the longest-serving heir apparent and Prince of Wales in British history.
The King is married to Her Majesty Camilla, the Queen Consort. His sons are Prince William and Prince Harry from his marriage to Princess Diana.
