2015 $20 Sir John A. Macdonald Fine Silver Coin

This 2015 $20 pure silver coin is a new release from the Royal Canadian Mint that anticipates both the bicentennial of the birth of Sir John A. Macdonald, possibly the most notable of the Fathers of Confederation, and the 150th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation in 2017!

In the reverse design by Canadian artist William Lazos, Macdonald is presented in three-quarter profile. The beautifully rendered portrait is engraved in exquisite detail, bringing to life the gaze of this powerful figure in Canadian political history. Behind him we see part of the facade of the original Centre Block at Parliament Hill in Ottawa, which was lost in the Great Fire of 1916. The engraved circle framing this inner portrait is finely decorated with stylized maple leaves of varying sizes flanking its left and right sides. This beautiful corona of maple leaves symbolically represents the foundation of Canada, while a banner engraved with the former Prime Minister's name rests along the bottom of the coin. This coin has a wide diameter of 38mm and a sophisticated Proof finish from the Royal Canadian Mint, which allows the viewer to enjoy every detail in the reverse portrait.

The coin contains just over one ounce of pure silver, and is produced with a limited mintage of 8,500 coins. As a pure silver coin from the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is exempt from GST or HST.
