2020 Fine Silver Proof Set V-E-Day
This 2020 limited-edition proof set continues the tradition of presenting the highest-quality coins of each denomination issued in pure silver, plus a special-issue commemorative silver dollar. Denominations include the five-cent re-creation of the 1945 Victory nickel, the 10-cent coin, 25-cent coin, 50-cent coin and loon-style dollar, the VE Day commemorative silver dollar, and the two-dollar coin. The three highest-denomination coins are further enhanced with a selective overlay of 24-karat gold.
The proof silver dollar design features a selectively gold-plated "V" for Victory, which dominates the reverse design by artist Pandora Young. The crowd represents jubilation on the home front on May 8, 1945, a day when Canadians poured into streets and public places to celebrate Victory in Europe (V-E) Day. The spontaneous celebration gradually fades behind the "V" to become a scene of remembrance, with three silhouettes representing the different branches (navy, army and air force) of the Canadian and British Armed Forces in which Canadians and Newfoundlanders served. The obverse features the effigy of King George VI by T. H. Paget and a Victory privy mark.

A soldier's first step onto Juno Beach is preserved for all time in this poignant design by Glen Loates. The reverse features a military bootprint in the sand, its deep indentation and crisp lines conveying the weight of the soldier's resolve as he moves towards his objective. Below the bootprint, a wave laps at the shore, its contours echoing the Normandy coastline. The word "Juno" fills the space between the bootprint and the water, and sits atop the anniversary years "1944–2019" that are linked by a maple leaf insignia from the Second World War.
