In the Silver Age Flash origin story, police scientist Barry Allen gains his powers after being doused in chemicals that have been struck by lightning. He soon discovers that he can move at superhuman speeds and can even pluck a bullet out of the air, becoming the fastest man alive! Allen's costume carries forward some of the design elements of his Golden Age counterpart, Jay Garrick. The wings on the helmet and boots (inspired by the Roman god Mercury) are present (though the helmet is now a full-coverage face mask), and the blue colour is removed in favour of an all-red look accented with yellow lightning bolts. The iconic lightning-bolt insignia on the chest, however, remains.
