2023 Fine Silver $2 Coin with "W" Mint Mark (Winnipeg)

Although the Royal Canadian Mint produces millions of regular bi-metallic two-dollar coins for circulation each year, just 7,500 of this unusual solid one-ounce pure silver collector edition two-dollar coin have been released as the first coin in a new series that will include all of Canada's regular coin denominations. The coin includes a "W" mint mark to highlight that the coin was struck at the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg, while most collector coins are struck at the Ottawa location. The background field includes straight lines meeting on an angle in the centre inspired by the striking exterior of the Winnipeg facility. The obverse features the posthumous memorial effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, including the 2023 issue date and the dates of reign, 1952–2022.
