Product Overview

The Royal Canadian Mint has issued several different coins in the past few years inspired by exquisite jewellery in the Royal Collection. While all have been popular, those issued in pure gold with real gemstones have been the most sought-after and elusive issues. This 2024 $200 fine gold coin extends the coin series as it re-creates the Sapphire Jubilee Snowflake Brooch gifted by Canada to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2017, marking both the 65th anniversary of her reign and Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation. The coin is struck in nearly two ounces of fine gold and is embellished with eight genuine sapphires and selective rhodium plating.

Then-Governor General David Johnston presented the original Sapphire Jubilee Snowflake Brooch to Queen Elizabeth II during a visit to Canada House in London on July 19, 2017. Designed by Saskatchewan-based jeweller Hillberg and Berk, the brooch was crafted in 18-karat Canadian white gold and is set with more than 400 diamonds (totalling 4.39 carats) from northern Canada, plus 48 Canadian beluga sapphires (totalling 10.19 carats) that were part of a cache discovered in 2002 on Baffin Island. The composition is shaped like a snowflake that sparkles in the light.

This intricate and beautifully embellished coin provides a high-quality representation of the original Crown Jewels. The engraved rhodium finish snowflake shape is adorned with eight royal blue sapphires (four round and four oval) that surround the centre. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
