Working as a nighttime janitor in a North Canton, Ohio factory in 1908, inventor Murray Spangler decided to put his brain to work and come up with a solution for the amount of dust that aggravated his chronic asthma. He would come up with a strange device that involved a series of household items that, while bizarre and bulky, worked like a charm and kept the factory dust in check. Inspired to evolve his invention, he found a willing and visionary backer in W.H. Hoover, a successful local leather manufacturer. Setting up as partners, the two would delve into some revolutionary advertising while simultaneously employing a small team to start building an overhauled version of Spangler's original invention. The rest, as they say, is history, and one of the premiere recognition brands of all time was born. Over a century later, Hoover still bears the same familiar name synonymous with vacuuming, cleaning, and a reliable, durable product.
